European elections: turnout under 50% in Italy, FDI first party. In Lombardy the League loses 30% of the votes

Not even one in two voters went to the polls, proof of the disaffection with voting and the lack of consideration for Europe. If five years ago the turnout was 56%, this time the bar, at a national level, stopped at 49.69%.

Fratelli d’Italia is close to 29%, with “Giorgia” which alone exceeds half a million preferences in our constituency alone. The movement’s leap is 20 percentage points in five years, with the League – government partner – losing a good quarter of its consensus, reaching 9.16%, when in 2009 it was at 34. It grows slightly, to always remain among the row of the national majority, Forza Italia: the Azzurri, orphans of Berlusconi, went from 8.8% to 9.72% in tandem with Noi moderates of Lupi, effectively overtaking Salvini’s Northern League. Elly Schlein’s PD – which already declares itself the alternative to Meloni – holds its ground and grows, going from 22.7% to 24%. The Green and Left Alliance – which brings Salis to Europe – also did well, while both Calenda and Renzi/Bonino remained out.

More in the room. The League’s thud in Lombardy goes beyond the worst predictions. From 43% in 2019, Salvini’s party has collapsed to 13%. However, it maintained third position, managing to avoid being overtaken by Forza Italia as happened at a national level. Fratelli d’Italia in Lombardy exceeds the Italian figure by almost three points. The 5 Star Movement continues its inexorable downward march. Calenda’s action has exceeded the barrier threshold in the region, but as mentioned it still remains outside the European Parliament.
