Navy Day commemorates the anniversary of the Premuda Action of 10 June 1918, an important and daring naval operation of the WWI. On that occasion, the Anti-Submarine Motorboats 15 and 21, led by the Lieutenant Commander Luigi Rizzoattacked and sank the enemy battleship Szent Istvan, preventing a raid against the Allied anti-submarine blockade in the Otranto Channel.
During the ceremony, the ships Paolo Thaon di Revel and Francesco Morosini will receive the battle flag. Vessel Vulcano will be awarded the gold medal of merit for its exceptional health care service, as a hospital ship within the operation Levantto patients coming from Gaza Strip.
