A 75-year-old man from Barletta donated his heart, liver and kidneys

“A long and tiring donation but which today allows four people to continue to live”: the sixth multi-organ donation in the Local Health Authority Bt concluded this morning. A 75-year-old man from Barletta donated a heart, liver and kidneys. “The man had expressed his will in life – says Giuseppe Vitobello, responsible for the procurement of organs and tissues of the ASL – his family supported the choice without any hesitation”. In the operating rooms of the Bonomo Hospital in Andria directed by Dr. Nicola Di Venosa, the team from the Polyclinic of Bari took turns taking the heart and the liver and the team from the Polyclinic of Foggia taking the kidneys: the organs were have already been successfully transplanted.
“Our thanks to the donor and his family for this noble gesture – says Tiziana Dimatteo, General Director of ASL Bt – his organs have given life and hope. And we hope that this will help the family to face and manage the pain of loss”.
