CROTONE – They change your voting section, they don’t tell you, but above all they forget to include your name in the voter lists of the new section too. It happened to a voter from Crotone, the lawyer Francesca Parise, who on Sunday 9 June, in the late morning, went to the polling station set up in the ‘Corrado Alvaro’ school in via Boccioni to vote in the European elections.
The lawyer, as she had done in October 2022, when she voted for the last time, went to the section indicated on her electoral card issued in September 2020: number 58. She presented her card and identity document to the president of the section that called the name to be verified on the lists. The name, Francesca Parise, however, was not there.
At that point a check began at the registry office, carried out by a manager of the Municipality of Crotone present at the polling station, and it was discovered that the lawyer’s section had been changed, without any communication, and that she would have to go and vote at number 70 in the same seat as ‘Corrado Alvaro’.
The voter goes to section number 70, but her name is not there either and therefore she was unable to vote. In practice, you are not registered in any electoral register and you cannot fulfill your right to vote.
“The thing I was able to understand – says the lawyer Parise – is that not only did they change my section without informing me but they forgot to include me in the new one, i.e. 70. I would have to go to the registry office to get myself included in the list and then to return to vote because I wasn’t actually included in the electoral lists, which is a much more serious thing. They hindered my right to vote.”
