AUSER Viterbo today commemorated the Nazi massacre of 8 June 1944

VITERBO – The president, Rita Squarcetti, placed a wreath of flowers on the plaque in Piazza Gramsci in Viterbo at the foot of the walls in the presence of Senator Sergio Pollastrelli, the prefect Gennaro Capo, Lina Delle Monache representing the Province, the Mayor of Viterbo Chiara Frontini and volunteer associations from the city of Viterbo.

The plaque commemorates the Nazi retaliation against defenseless citizens. In that place, on 8 June 1944, three people were murdered. Two were men, citizens of Viterbo: Pollastrelli Giacomo and Telli Oreste. The third was a woman, “a woman – says the tombstone – who remained unknown”. No one ever knew who she was, only her tragic epilogue is certain, similar to that of thousands of women who remained unknown.

AUSER Viterbo has always been committed to transmitting memory and defending the values ​​of tolerance, respect for diversity, solidarity for the weak, attention towards the most fragile and every year since 2015 it commemorates that sad event.
After a brief introduction by the President, Senator Pollastrelli, an eyewitness to the tragic events of 1944 in Viterbo, took the floor. Dana Koutos, the student of the Oriuoli institute, winner of the first prize of the annual Auser competition “The woman remained unknown” expressed words of thanks. Daniele Colonna brought a message from ANPI. there were valuable interventions by the Prefect SE Gennaro Capo, by the representative of the Province of Viterbo, Lina Delle Monache, by the Mayor of Viterbo Chiara Frontini, who committed to establishing this day as a commemorative day for the city of Viterbo.
The President of the Volunteer Council, as well as historic Auser member, Raimondi Raimondi and other municipal councilors gave their contribution.
