Was acquitted from all charges the former manager ofAterp of Reggio Calabria Eugenia Rita Minicòarrested last February in the “Public Housing” investigation on charges of external complicity with the ‘ndrangheta. The judge decided it Vincenzo Quaranta which, at the end of the preliminary hearings, sent 27 defendants to trial in the trial resulting from an investigation by the Carabinieri, coordinated by the DDA of Reggio Calabria, who revealed the illegal public housing business publicly owned.

Net of the defendants who chose the abbreviated procedure, 16 were acquitted, including Eugenia Rita Minicò. For an accusation of corruptionthe preliminary hearing judge declared the prescriptionwhile for all the other crimes for which the former director of the territorial public residential building company was under investigation, the judge acquitted with the formula “because the fact does not exist”. The same decision was taken against the defendants Roberto Franco, Carmela Morabito, Domenico Morabito, Giovanni Marcianò, Paola Costantino, Domenico Alvaro, Carmelo Caminiti, Irina Kandyba, Annunziato Tripodi, Donatello Canzonieri, Orsola Di Lollo, Giovanni Palillo, Filippo Arabesco, Maddalena Anna Cuzzola and Debora Arabesco.

Among those sent to trial, however, there are the boss of the ‘Ndrangheta Carmelo Murina and his brother-in-law Giuseppe Agostino, both accused of mafia-type criminal association.

Considered the chief promoter of the mafia-style criminal association, Murina had been detained for some time because he was regent of the Franco-Murina gang of Santa Caterina, federated with the Tegano mafia family.

Also on trial are three municipal employees, including Antonio Nucera, serving in the public works sector of the Municipality of Reggio Calabria, accused of external competition. According to the prosecutors, he was “at the disposal” of the gang to whom he would have reported “the unassigned public housing” for which, “after the payment of 2,000 euros, he handed over the keys to the property” to the boss’s brother-in-law.

The DDA investigation revealed a situation of malfeasance that had been going on for years. The Municipality of Reggio Calabria and the Region became civil parties in the trial.
