AREZZO – A real movie chase took place on the A1 motorway, in the north lane near Arezzo. A police car was rammed and in the end three of them ended up in handcuffs, accused of receiving stolen goods, resisting a public official, aggravated injuries and possession of burglary tools. After a series of thefts perpetrated in the Montevarchi area, the police managed to identify the car used by the criminals, a Mercedes, and their modus operandi.
Sharing investigative elements allowed investigators to intercept the gang of thieves on two occasions. In a first episode, the criminals used a fire extinguisher to overwhelm the police cars and escape. On the night between May 30th and 31st, the police managed to stop the gang along the Autosole. It was here that the driver of the Mercedes, clearly hunted, put the car into reverse and collided with the traffic police car.
One of the policemen also had to resort to medical treatment and in the end he had a 25-day prognosis. The gang, six in total, attempted to escape on foot, crossing the New Jersey and reaching the nearby fields. Three managed to escape, the others were arrested. They are a 45-year-old, a 29-year-old and a 22-year-old, all with numerous criminal records behind them. It was later discovered that the car was also traveling with a cloned license plate. Inside the Mercedes, numerous tools and equipment suitable for burglary were seized. The arrests were validated and the precautionary custody in prison of the three was confirmed.
