New public work near Porta Castello

First Porta Sant’Andrea, then the arch of via Ponte Giulio, now Porta Castello. The laminate structure (useful for covering the gas pipes) built in the space of a few days, in front of the historic medieval walls in via De Gasperi, represents only the latest of the works which demonstrate little attention towards the ancient city structures and which make the Andria’s aesthetic.

The monumental heritage should be respected, defended and valorised and for this reason the complaint was promptly received from Italia Nostra, an association for the protection of cultural and artistic heritage: “Almost overnight a metal box appeared in front of the walls of Andria It is a cumbersome work with a strong visual impact – comments the representative of Italia Nostra – which does not respect the history of our monuments”.

“As an Association we have already taken steps to ask the Superintendency if the building has all the necessary authorizations and we are waiting to receive answers in this regard. What we are certainly asking – concludes the Italia Nostra spokesperson – is greater attention when implementing this type of work in culturally relevant places and the implementation of a protocol that can act as a valid tool to avoid further unsightliness for the city of Andria”.
