Eugenio Fascetti, former coach of Bari among others and coach of Varese in 1980 when Beppe Marotta, now president of Inter, began his managerial career, spoke thus of the new Nerazzurri number one:
“At that time Beppe was a very young boy. I must say that he has learned, he has matured, he has become an excellent manager: the results speak for him. I have a beautiful memory of Marotta: little by little he managed to climb the hierarchy at Varese, the lawyer Colantuoni, his great master, was important in his path. The truth is that Marotta already understood how one should behave, this profession was in his blood, in fact he later became a great and successful manager“.
“I found him at the headquarters, he came to the camp, in fact he was a factotum. For me he was a trustworthy person, but above all a great guy. It was clear that he would have a career, he knew how to be in the world. I could have sworn that he would have come very far. Maybe not to the point of becoming the president of Inter, but an important path, with great responsibility, absolutely yes. He knew how to move, he understood, he spoke little, he grew up well, so much so that he had become the president’s right-hand man“.
