Taxi drivers belonging to Fita Cna Trasporto Peso are asking for greater controls to combat illegal practices and illegal forms of taxi activity. The high tourist development of the city of Matera contributed to the municipal administration’s decision, shared by the category, to increase the number of TAXI licenses from six to ten; the increase in cars in service since the first days after the entry into service of the new TAXI has produced an undoubted improvement in the service aimed at tourists but
also to city users.
This situation goes hand in hand with the increase in activities involved in the transport of people, especially NCC (Rental with Driver), many of which are based in municipalities other than Matera but gravitate towards the city of the Sassi for carrying out their activities. Following some field checks, it emerged that there are many regular companies engaged in this activity but just as many that carry it out without being in possession of the necessary licenses and authorizations (hoteliers, owners of non-hotel accommodation, illegal illegal workers).
In light of the increase in this unfortunate phenomenon, Fita Cna People Transport – Taxi – requests an increase in control activity by the Urban Police, part of a more comprehensive supervisory action plan in collaboration with the other Police Forces present on the territory, so that the requested checks are not carried out on a one-off basis such as to be considered extraordinary but rather part of an ordinary supervisory action for the repression of unfair behavior that does not comply with the current regulations to be implemented periodically.
