The Smart festival (Storie Musiche ARezzo Teatro), a project curated by Officine della Cultura, announces some of the protagonists of its fourth edition, awaiting a summer of meetings and dialogue, starting with one of the most anticipated events , what Wednesday 17 July you’ll see Corrado Formigli And Stefano Massini share the stage of the Medici Fortress of Arezzo in “Titanic – or the planet sinks but the band continues to play”, a new production by Savà Produzioni Creative, Officine della Cultura and Sistema Peccioli, curated by the Guido d’Arezzo Foundation.

A question perhaps simple, certainly necessary, lies at the basis of the story: in the face of unprecedented climatic events, destructive typhoons and indomitable fires, with the mercury column now challenging records year after year, there are some minimal rules, concrete, very simple, to prevent the Titanic from hitting the iceberg?

The answer is a live show in which the ten rules to save us from shipwreck create the opportunity for a meeting between three languages: journalism, story telling and music.

An experiment in civil theater, which finally attempts to shine a light on the climate crisis that has been ignored for too long, accompanied by the music of Luca “Roccia” Baldini and Massimo Ferri performed live by Tazio Aprile (keyboards), Luca “Roccia” Baldini (bass ), Massimo Ferri (guitar, bouzouki) and Mariel Tahiraj (violin).

Sunday 21 July Amanda Sandrelli, Paolo Giovannucci and theMultiethnic Orchestra of Arezzo will bring to the stage of the Arezzo Medici Fortress “The carnival of insects” by Stefano Benni in an original adaptation with music by Enrico Fink produced by Officine della Cultura.

Between satire, puns and neologisms, Stefano Benni’s creativity will here indicate a new point of view for restless humanity, a divergent point, facing downwards, still a little lower than usual, yet capable to include approximately 90% of all arthropods and more than 70% of all known animal species: insects.

Considered the environmentalist manifesto of the Bolognese writer and humorist, “The Carnival of Insects” is a tribute to cockroaches, butterflies, bees, spiders and even mosquitoes, forced to raise their paws in an irreverent prayer to a species, ours, “too occupied by other nobles, very high plans to look at the marvelous variety that swarms at (their) feet and flies above (their) head”.

A prayer and at the same time a metaphor, a bitter consideration of how bisexual hominoid primates, that is, us, prefer Baygon, pesticides and flypaper to precious classifications.

The musical formation from Arezzo, with its musicians from 12 different countries, together with the amused and biting voices of Amanda Sandrelli and Paolo Giovannucci, could only be the meeting ground for this ironic, imaginative and intelligent look at the fate of man , who does not realize that the destiny of the earth is about to change masters. The event is organized in collaboration with the Guido d’Arezzo Foundation as part of the third edition of “Summer in the Fortress”.

Another event not to be missed will be the one with Alessandro Welcome that he will bring to the stage, Monday 5 August at the Arena Eden, his “Pills of me – comic memoirs by Alessandro Benvenuti”.

«Pills of me – writes Benvenuti –, that is, a bit of comical stuff, a bit recited, a bit read, to tell those ears who want to listen to me, my enjoyment in living a life on the edge of comedy condensed into saving pills that protect the brain and its cousin Soul, from the ugliness that existence offers us every day with sadistic enthusiasm, without anyone having asked her for anything in the slightest.

Nothing chemical, tablets made of lively and natural herbs grown in the gardens of my house. I hope that at least for one evening they will give those who want to swallow them a bit of ascetic relief.”

Shows start at 9.15pm. Further information: Officine della Cultura, via Trasimeno 16, tel. 0575 27961 – 338 8431111 – [email protected] – www.arezzosmartfestival.com – www.officinedellacultura.org.
