I waited a few days before intervening on the matter of the labor judge’s ruling which condemned Sport Management SSD Spa, former manager of the municipal swimming pool of Cremona, to compensate over 30,000 euros to 5 former collaborators for irregularities in employment contracts. A sentence which once again establishes the unreliability of a manager to whom the Galimberti Administration had entrusted the municipal swimming pool for 25 years and who should have monitored it to protect the workers. To date, no one from the Council has publicly expressed solidarity with the employees and satisfaction with the positive outcome of the legal case.
Yet the words pronounced by the mayoral candidate Virgilio on the occasion of Labor Day are recent “The dignity of work must be at the center of public attention today, May 1st, like every other day of the year. The bar of rights must be raised to guarantee all workers, men and women of our community, better contractual, safety and salary conditions. The goal is to achieve more advanced standards in terms of labor rights. For this reason we will adopt a salary policy inspired by virtuous examples”. Didn’t the pool workers deserve treatment that was equally respectful of their dignity? How will the Municipality support them in obtaining what they deserve considering the composition with creditors situation in which Sport Management finds itself?
Are we sure that Forus is not applying the same type of contracts to the current workers taking into account the notice that appeared a few months ago in which lifeguards were sought, still citing the sports collaboration contract?
Will the discontinuity that Virgil refers to also be applied in relations with Forus? I remember that today we are still waiting for the start of the redevelopment works on the swimming pool which are only 7 years late. And while the Municipality of Cremona continues to give extensions and justify non-compliance and inefficiencies, other Administrations have given Forus the right to do so, such as Busto Arsizio, which has decided to terminate the contract, judging the manager to be in default, with respect to which news has leaked out of a possible default in the absence of new funds after losing such an important facility.
Among Virgil’s many mea culpas with respect to the past administration, can we also expect the one relating to the management of the swimming pool with the promise of a decisive change of pace in the event of victory? I make this commitment to the voters in continuity with how I have spent myself in recent years at the request of users, rowers and workers to whom I have never failed to listen and support.
