Pope Francis in Trieste, official program published

Francis will be visiting the Julian capital on Sunday 7 July, at the conclusion of the Social Weeks of Catholics in Italy. A meeting is planned at the “Generali” Congress Center, a meeting with migrants, ecumenical representatives, academics and disabled people, a Mass in Piazza Unità d’Italia

There will also be ecumenical meetings and with a group of migrants and sick people to mark Pope Francis’ visit to Trieste next Sunday 7 July. Visit of less than five hours which will conclude the Social Week of Catholics in Italy, a multi-year CEI appointment which aims to deepen and relaunch the Christian social message and guide the action of believers in the world of work.

The arrival

In Trieste, after taking off from the Vatican heliport at 6.30 – we read in the program released today by the Vatican Press Office – the Pontiff will arrive at 8 in the “Generali Convention Center”. Francis will be welcomed by the president of the CEI, Cardinal Matteo Maria Zuppi, by Monsignor Luigi Renna, archbishop of Catania and president of the organizing committee of the Social Weeks, and by bishop Enrico Trevisi. Together with them also the president of the Region, Massimiliano Fedriga; the prefect of Trieste, Pietro Signoriello; the mayor Roberto Dipiazza, and Philippe Donnet, CEO of “Generali”.

The speech at the Congress Center

An appointment with congress participants will be held in the same Center. After Cardinal Zuppi’s greeting and Monsignor Renna’s introduction, the Pope will give a speech. At the end, while the congress participants will move to Piazza Unità d’Italia, the Pope will briefly meet some distinct groups: ecumenical representatives, exponents of the academic world and a group of migrants and disabled people.

The Mass in Piazza Unità d’Italia

In an open car, at 10am, Pope Francis will leave the Congress Center to move to Piazza Unità d’Italia, where the Eucharistic concelebration is scheduled for 10.30am, followed by the recitation of the Angelus. Before the final blessing, there will be thanks from Bishop Trevisi.

So take-off from Molo Audace in Trieste is set for 12.30pm, with landing at the Vatican heliport at 2pm.
