Actuality

A few days ago we learned from the Municipality of Mazara del Vallo of the signing of resolution no. 1102 by the manager of the Municipal Sector I, Dr. Giovanna Lombardo (responsible for digital transition of the Authority), through which the supply and installation of an environmental impact monitoring and assessment system was entrusted to the company Ricoh Italia srl of Milan of the cycle path (bike counting and diffusion via air quality monitor) and three multimedia stations, in the shape of a totem, with tourist app.

In recent months, and in particular with the approach of the electoral campaign for the administrative elections, many citizens have wondered about the cycle path project itself; in truth, very few have questioned the importance and need for the creation of a cycle path but some specific proposals have been raised for the improvement of the path itself and road traffic following the narrowing of the lanes reserved for cars and other vehicles .

The Administration has set up several car parks along the two stretches of the east and west coasts of the city where the cycle path itself has been built; one for example is the one already set up in an area (a property confiscated from the mafia) at the intersection between the San Vito seafront itself and the underpass of via don Gaspare Morello. The other, recently built, in a large private area located in front of the initial stretch of Lungomare San Vito, next to the Mahara Hotel; finally another, again under private concession, is located behind the amusement park area on the stretch of the same seafront where the new playground and outdoor fitness area is located; it is obviously hoped that these three car parks will not become the “kingdom” of illegal parkers (we have received the first reports).

Another proposal, which we have put forward several times, is to completely eliminate the parking spaces alongside the cycle path in order to free up the panorama of the seafront and the view of the horizon and which at the same time would allow the road to be widened. Once the car has been parked, citizens could reach the historic center or the bathing area of the San Vito seafront thanks to the necessarily continuous electric bus service. It is also hoped that before the completion and inauguration of the cycle path, while the construction site is still open (hence some doubts about accessibility), the fishing boat moored and abandoned for years (which over time has also become an illegal landfill) will also be removed. , in that stretch of quay between the steps of Piazza Regina and the small square of the port crossed by the cycle path.

The current cycle path project currently involves crossing the Mazaro river via the barge which has not yet resumed service after the long autumn-winter break. Another issue reported by some of our readers concerns the current danger of the cycle path which is often crossed by cyclists at high speed and even by electric bicycles and scooters reaching speeds of over 40 km per hour; very heated discussions were recorded between citizens who were traveling along the track with their families and others who were traveling along it at high speed.

It is therefore necessary, citizens always ask us, that the competent authorities clarify the speed limits relating to the cycle path itself, which has not yet been officially tested, also equipping it with specific signs that prohibit exceeding 30 km/h and access with bikes that have a working electric system and scooters. We are therefore waiting for the cycle path to be completed and for any “anomalies” that arise with its entry into operation to be immediately fixed.
