A candidate for the Pescara City Council, Michele Calvani, a member of the Pescara Futura list, during a rally in Piazza Salotto rolled up the sleeves of his shirt and cut his arm with a knife he had in his pocket, declaring that he wanted to swear his commitment to the city with blood: “If I lie, the waters of the Pescara river will swallow me up”.
Michele Calvani, candidate for municipal councilor of Pescara with a list also supported by the outgoing mayor Carlo Masci, was the protagonist of an episode that was filmed and shared hundreds of times on social media: during a rally in Piazza Salotto, the main square of the most populous of Abruzzo, used a knife that he hid in his pocket to cut himself on his arm and take a blood oath“.
After having rolled up the sleeve of his right shirt and having suffered a cut, Calvani said in front of the square: “I swear to all of you: by right of blood, jure sanguinisthat until the last moment of my life I will strive to achieve what I promised in front of all of you, and I will never lie”. The aspiring city councilor, taking the microphone back in his hand, concluded the oath with a promise: “Because if I were to lie, from the Risorgimento bridge, the Pescara river with its waters must swallow my body and wash away the shame of the lie – he said, before saying goodbye – Thank you friends, thank you Pescara, thank you Gabriele ( D’Annunzio, ed)”.
Calvani is candidate with the Pescara Futura list, founded 27 years ago by Carlo Masci, outgoing mayor of Pescara, now re-nominated for Forza Italia and supported by the entire centre-right. In his election campaign posters Calvani describes himself like this: “Michele Calvani is the son of Pescara, grandson of Pescara, great-grandson of Pescara, whose great-grandfather was a friend of Gabriele D’Annunzio and Tito Acerbo, men who laid the foundations of greatness of our city”. In the curriculum vitae published on Facebook by Pescara Futura herself, he explains that he studied between Teramo and Rome before dedicating himself to entrepreneurship in the construction sector. And he boasts, among other “results”, of having also organized Miss Italia: “(…) starting the management of the Miss Italia competition for the Abruzzo and Marche regions, an activity which he conducted from 1985 to 2019”.
