TRIESTE – There are three speeches – including the homily of the mass and the Angelus – that Pope Francis will deliver during his scheduled pastoral visit to Trieste Sunday 7 July to close the 50th Social Week of Catholics in Italy (3-7 July 2024). According to the program released today by the Vatican Press Office, the Pontiff will take off by helicopter at 6.30 from the Vatican heliport to land at 8 at the «Generali Convention Center» Congress Center in the Julian capital, where he will be welcomed by card. Matteo Maria Zuppi, archbishop of Bologna and president of the CEI, mons. Luigi Renna, archbishop of Catania and president of the organizing committee of the Social Weeks, mons. Enrico Trevisi, bishop of Trieste, Massimiliano Fedriga, president of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, Pietro Signoriello, prefect of Trieste, Roberto Dipiazza, mayor of Trieste, and Philippe Donnet, CEO of «Generali».

At 8.30, inside the Congress Center the Pope will meet the participants in the Social Week, and after the greeting of Card. Zuppi and the introduction of Msgr. Renna will give his speech. At 9.15, at the end of the speech, while the congress participants move to Piazza Unità d’Italia, the Pontiff will briefly meet some distinct groups: ecumenical representatives (15), academic world (50), migrants and disabled people (150). At 10am Francesco will leave the Congress Center in an open car, to arrive in Piazza Unità d’Italia where at 10.30am he will preside over the mass. Before the final blessing, there will be a greeting from the bishop, Msgr. Trevisi. Takeoff from Molo Audace in Trieste is therefore scheduled for 12.30 pm, with landing at the Vatican heliport at 2 pm.
