Scicli, Michele Giavatto, former head of Modica hospital, has died

Doctor Michele Giavatto, former head of the Analysis Laboratory of the Maggiore “Nino Baglieri” hospital in Modica, has died in Scicli after a short illness. Giavatto was also involved in the CGIL union, was a member of the Scicli PD, and was one of the main supporters of Modica’s Avis. He leaves behind his wife and daughter.
“Unfortunately today is a sad day because Michele Giavatto, militant and leader of the CGIL, has left us. Michele was a great, consistent companion, always on the side of the weakest and the least. He had a professional career as a medical analyst and was head of the analysis laboratory.
He has always carried out his profession with great seriousness and a spirit of service, professionalism and scientific rigor. Always on the side of users, patients and workers in the healthcare system. From his top position he always managed to stay away from power, fighting injustice and malfeasance in healthcare, until the last days of his service.
He was among the builders of the excellent realities of our healthcare system and for this reason in recent years he has fought on the front line against the decline of public healthcare. Michele was always a positive incentive for us union leaders, and he guided us towards some battles that he was the first to fight from the front line and with his head held high.
His death leaves a great void in the CGIL, in his Scicli and in the Iblean healthcare system. He leaves us the example of a life spent at the service of the weakest, always on the side of social justice”. This was stated in a note by the general secretary of the CGIL of Ragusa, Peppe Scifo.
