Istat data confirms: tourism is growing strongly in Lombardy

Lombardy Region Councilor Barbara Mazzali

MILAN – Lombardy and Lazio are the Italian regions that grew the most on the tourism front in 2023 compared to 2022. ISTAT certifies this in a report published todayfrom which it emerges that last year was a record year for Italian tourism, with 451 million presences (stays), equal to +9.5% (39 million more) compared to 2022.

Satisfied Barbara Mazzali, Councilor for Tourism, Territorial Marketing and Fashion of the Lombardy Region. “Results that fill me with pride, both Lombard and national. Today we reap the fruits of the team work carried out from March 2023 to today, at the helm of the Tourism Department of the Lombardy Region, in collaboration with the government of Giorgia Meloni, and in synergy with our provinces, our Municipalities, hoteliers and operators Lombardy tourism at every level. The numbers confirm a quality offer recognized in Lombardy, today not only an industrial locomotive but also land that contributes significantly to one of the most dynamic and high-performance sectors of the Italian economy: tourism. As a Region we immediately understood the need to a solid tourist program that leveraged the many ‘tourisms’ of our 12 provinces, on the value of data, on the importance of deseasonalisation, on the rediscovery of villages and on the valorisation of ‘slow tourism’ and ‘experiential’ tourism. We all worked towards the same goal: keep tourists on our territory for as long as possible, to bring income to local communities. From here the creation of the regional Observatory on Tourism and Attractiveness, the Roundtable with the Universities, our new regional unitary brand, the ‘Lombardy Style’ and the start of the Tourist Charter process. But also calls for tenders to keep the bar of quality accommodation in Lombardy high and investments in promotional activities abroad, tracing a path that is still full of projects in the pipeline to take Lombardy even higher”.
