PESARO – Carpegna Prosciutto Basket Pesaro announces that it has reached an agreement – on a two-year basis – with Stefano Sacripanti for the role of Head Coach of the First Team. In addition to the technical guidance, Sacripanti is also entrusted with responsibility for the Sports Area. Coach Sacripanti will therefore also take care of building the roster and coordinating Basketball Operations.

The return

For the coach from Cantù, born in 1970, it is a return to the red and white club after the experience he had as a coach between 2007 and 2009. Sacripanti’s career began with his hometown club, Cantù, first as coach of the youth sector and then of the first team: in 2001/2002 he reached the playoff semi-final and was awarded the title of best coach of the year. In the following season he reached the Italian Cup final and in 2003/2004 he won the Italian Super Cup. His relationship with the Lombard club ended in 2007: he thus arrived in Pesaro, leading the VL which had just returned to the top league. In 2008/2009 with the Pesaro team he gained access to the playoffs.

In the summer of 2009 he accepted the call to Caserta, where he remained until 2013: in 2010 with the Bianconeri he reached the playoff semi-final, also gaining access to the Euroleague for the following season. From 2013 to 2015 he was again on the Cantù bench, then took on the technical leadership of Scandone Avellino with which he reached the playoff semi-final and the Italian Cup final against Milan, repeating the following year too.

From Virtus to Napoli

In the summer of 2018 he arrived in Bologna, called by Virtus, while in the following championship and until 2022 he coaches Napoli, bringing them back to Serie A and also winning the LNP Italian Cup. In 2023 he was called up during the current season by Scafati: together with the Campania team he achieved salvation. In December 2023 he must leave the Givova bench for health reasons.

Point of reference for the national team

Sacripanti is also a point of reference when it comes to the Italian national team: in 2017 he was Ettore Messina’s deputy while in the youth field together with the Under 20 selection he won a gold, a silver and a bronze in three editions of the European championships.

Now he returns to VL, to the Pesaro that has always respected him: welcome back, ‘Pino’!
