Vicenza-Avellino, Irpinia ultras arrested: he had climbed over and attempted to steal a flag

The moment of the clashes during Vicenza-Avellino last Sunday

He climbed over the gate that delimits the away sector from the pitch and headed, with a threatening air, towards the Vicenza fans in the distinguished sector, insulting them and trying to steal the flag from one of them with a slap. For this reason, the Digos of the Vicenza Police Headquarters, after identifying him, arrested an Avellino fan, former head of the Campania ultras.

A provision arrived less than 48 hours after the match which saw the return match of the semi-final for the Serie C play-offs take place at the Menti stadium in Vicenza on Sunday evening 2 June: a match, the one between Vicenza and Avellino, which recorded the sold out and with a score of 2 to 1 for the hosts, it opened the doors of the final to the red and whites, the first leg of which against Carrarese will be held tomorrow evening in Tuscany.

During last Sunday’s match, specifically in the 19th minute of the second half, immediately after Vicenza’s second goal, the Avellino supporter, as the Berica Police Headquarters writes in a press note, “engaged in dangerous conduct by going over the gate that delimits the away sector from the pitch and heading, in a threatening and challenging manner, towards the Vicenza fans in the Distinti sector, insulting them and attempting, after having launched a violent blow at one of these with an open hand, to tear and take possession of an opposing fan’s flag”.

Failing to steal the banner, the ultras then returned towards the North curve, climbing over the fence again and returning to their sector. A violent behavior that had generated a reaction from the red and white fans: other fans, on both sides, also approached the relevant balustrades, climbing to try to get over them. The clash between the two opposing groups of supporters was averted thanks to the timely intervention of the stewards and the police who, with many difficulties, managed to restore calm, allowing the match to resume.

Subsequently, however, there was a violent response from the Irpinia fans themselves, who physically attacked two stewards, in charge of controlling the away sector, who had to seek medical treatment on site for the minor injuries they had suffered.
At the end of the meeting, the joint investigation began immediately between the Digos of the Vicenza Police Headquarters and that of Avellino which allowed, this morning, the identification and deferred arrest of the Irpinia fan, former Avellino ultras leader.

Sports justice

Sports judge Stefano Palazzi issued the order two-match disqualification against the red and white defender Vladimir Golemic, “for having, in the 30th minute of the second half, behaved violently towards an opposing player, because, after scoring an opposing goal, with the game stopped while he was trying to collect the ball from the goal and after receiving a push from the opponent, he reacted by hitting him with a medium intensity kick at calf height, causing him to fall to the ground”. The season is over for the red and white captain, therefore, barring any penalty: he will have to watch the home and away matches against Carrarese from the stands, which could open the doors to Serie B for his team. LR Vicenza will appeal.
