Savona, the XIII Voxonus Festival “From the Alps to the sea” presented. Russo: “It confirms itself as the driving force of the cultural growth of our city”

Savona. The presentation of the XIII Voxonus Festival “From the Alps to the sea” was an opportunity to reveal to the public the rich 2024 calendar. Launched in May with the first concerts in Piedmont, Voxonus will arrive at the Sanctuary of NS di Misericordia in Savona next 22 June (at 9.15pm), and will conclude the season in December after having visited 24 different locations.

However, the Festival is also an opportunity to meet, exchange ideas and cultural promotion that goes beyond city borders. The supporters and partners demonstrate this: host municipalities, Ministry of Culture, Piedmont Region, Province of Savona and De Mari Foundations, CRT and CRC, as well as the Pianfei and Rocca De’ Baldi Cooperative Credit Foundation, Unione Utenti Porto Savona-Vado, Isomar and Rotary Club Saluzzo. Voxonus also boasts close collaboration with the Liguria Regional Museums Directorate and with the Einaudi College of Turin, as well as the patronage of the Liguria Region.

THE FESTIVAL

Thirteen years of baroque wonder. Voxonus Festival “From the Alps to the sea” celebrates its thirteenth anniversary with a season of events and news dedicated to baroque music. With over 60 concerts, the Festival is the main production of the Savona Symphony Orchestra. Born from the experience of the Academy of musicians and singers, it makes use of musical ensembles made up of professionals of international caliber, using historical instruments that enhance the writing of the time. This year’s theme, “The continents of music”, traces the cultural routes of the past and present. The artistic proposal for 2024 therefore focuses on the rediscovery of eighteenth-century Italian authors, often little known, and on rarely performed compositions. Particular attention will also be dedicated to the comparison between authors who have attempted the String Quartet, underlining the Italian origins of this musical form, later brought to perfection by Mozart and Haydn. The program will also include fundamental works by eighteenth-century authors.

Alchimie: a traveling festival. Voxonus Festival will take place in 24 prestigious locations between Liguria, Piedmont and Puglia. Five concerts are planned in Savona, such as the one at the Sanctuary of NS di Misericordia scheduled for 22 June (Baroque meets Folk), or like the one inside the chapel of the Priamar Fortress (4 September, Voxonus Quartet). There will also be two “Off” concerts in the auditorium of the Savona Music Academy. Overall, 18 dates will be held in the province of Savona, with appointments also in Albissola Marina (oratorio di San Giuseppe), Varazze (piazza Sant’Ambrogio), Finale Ligure (Forte San Giovanni, Castelfranco, church of San Lorenzo a Varigotti), Sassello (church of San Rocco), Altare (Museum of Glass Art) and Vado Ligure (Villa Groppallo).

New horizons: Vox off – Youth space. The connection with the territory is a distinctive element of the Voxonus Festival, which through historical-cultural narratives rediscovers musical classicism as a key to understanding the present. As mentioned, 2024 sees the introduction of “Vox off – Youth Space”, a musical circuit dedicated to the new generations. Voxonus Festival also gives great importance to the various levels of communication, of which the most important remains the interpersonal one which is strengthened from concert to concert. Not only that, because this report is supported by paper and digital media, so as to guarantee full accessibility to all.

“Thirteen years have passed since the Voxonus Festival debuted in Albissola Marina – explains Claudio Gilio, president of the Savona Symphony Orchestra and artistic director of the Festival – We knew that a musical proposal focused on the rediscovery of the Baroque would prove attractive and functional. Today the Festival has grown enormously in productions, over time and places, reaffirming its centrality. Ours is a ‘festival within the festival’, recognized by its partners as a meeting point between musical research, advanced education and systematic promotion of territories. In fact, Voxonus gives voice to cultural entrepreneurship by fueling that network of ideas and projects that expands from the Savona area beyond its borders, supporting Savona’s candidacy as Capital of Culture 2027. An example of this, moreover, is the birth of the Music Center wanted by the administration together with Teatro dell’Opera Giocosa and Ensemble Nuove Musiche. This year too – concludes Gilio – we will bring our work to every stage but, even more importantly, we will collect an even more precious symphony: your story. This is where the Voxonus experience was born and renewed.”

“This year’s programming confirms the progressive consolidation, extension and development of the Voxonus Festival project, increasingly Savonese excellence. In this way the Symphony Orchestra, protagonist of the newborn Polo Musicale Savonese, confirms itself as the driving force of Savona’s cultural growth with a project that has the merit of developing in a vast area between the province of Savona and Piedmont, capturing the importance of dialogue between territories and which intends to trace new cultural routes by best interpreting the Savona 2027 project”. Thus the mayor of Savona Marco Russo and the councilor for culture Nicoletta Negro.

“Thanks to Voxonus, baroque notes and new melodies will once again pervade 18 tourist locations in Savona, stages of a music festival unique in Italy and of undisputed prestige – adds the president of the Province of Savona Pierangelo Olivieri -. It is truly a pleasure for the Provincial Administration to participate and support this project and accompany it as much as possible, which has now become an eagerly awaited and highly prestigious event for the entire territory. I would like to thank Maestro Gilio and all the artists and his collaborators who, for thirteen years, have been committed to bringing the beautiful gift of symphonic music to our territory”.

Alessandra Guerrini, director of the National Museums of Liguria, also expressed, through Alberto Parodi, director of Forte Santa Tecla in Sanremo, her great satisfaction with this new edition of Voxonus, which will see the network of museum, artistic and institutions involved for an active and concrete valorisation of the territory. “The collaboration between the regional management of national museums in Liguria and the Savona Symphony Orchestra was born last year – says Guerrini – with a memorandum of understanding thanks to which the state museums of the province of Savona (Forte San Giovanni in Finale Ligure led by Daniela Barbieri and Altare Glass Art Museum of Villa Rosa ad Altare led by Valentina Fiore) hosted some stages of the last season. This year the collaboration is consolidated, with the involvement of other state museums in the Ligurian territory: from the Archaeological Museum of Luni to the Archaeological Museum of Balzi Rossi in Ventimiglia, passing through the Roman Villa of Varignano in Portovenere, and Forte Santa Tecla in Sanremo and, finally, the Royal Palace of Genoa. In addition to the reconfirmation of the evocative locations of Villa Rosa di Altare and Forte San Giovanni in Finale Ligure”.
