Tragic road accident on the Gela-Scoglitti state road: a heavy vehicle hit two cyclists, one died. The clash occurred shortly before the Dirillo Bridge, in the Ragusa area: the impact proved to be very violent.

The victim is Raffaele Mazza, from Mazzarrone, in the province of Catania. The other cyclist was seriously injured and was transported to hospital with a red code. This is SB, seventy years old. When the alarm was raised, the 118 health workers, the air ambulance and the police arrived on site and closed the stretch of road to traffic to allow the rescuers to intervene safely.

Investigations are underway to reconstruct the dynamics of the clash. Long queues on the stretch of the provincial road, with severe traffic slowdowns while waiting for the vehicles to be removed from the road.

Traffic in that area is also compromised by another accident, a head-on collision involving a lorry and two cars along the 115 South Western Sicula state road. A section of the state road was closed, in both directions, in Gela, from km 280.200 to km 282.000. One person was injured in the accident. Traffic is currently being diverted onto alternative routes: SP 194 – for vehicles coming from Gela towards Vittoria; SP 90 – for vehicles coming from Vittoria towards Gela. Anas teams, firefighters and law enforcement are present on site to clarify the dynamics, to manage traffic in complete safety and to allow the restoration of regular traffic in the shortest possible time.
