Traits. Cremona – art profiles
7 June – 31 July 2024
Diocesan Museum, Cremona

It will be officially presented in the afternoon of Thursday 6 June at 6pm to the Diocesan Museum of Cremona “Traits. Cremona – art profiles”the monographic exhibition of the Cremonese photographer Paolo Mazziniedited by Valeria Loddo: an in-depth and layered investigation into the city of Cremona, represented as a living organism that evolves over time and space.

The exhibition, open to visitors from 7 June to 31 July in the temporary exhibition hall of the Diocesan Museum of Cremona, is promoted byto Potenza Tamini Foundationin collaboration with the Diocesan Museum of Cremona and the diocesan monthly Riflessi Magazine.

Paolo Mazzini offers a penetrating look at the complexity of the relationships between place, history and human identity. Each photograph captures the features of the same face, revealing the many facets of a city rich in history, culture and life. Closed lines, intersections, broken edges, harmonious curves are the traces that ideally connect the places of Cremona’s culture: Cathedral, Torrazzo, Diocesan Museum, Violin Museum, Arvedi Auditorium, Civic Museum and Archaeological Museum.

Visitors will have the opportunity to completely immerse themselves in the evocative atmosphere of Cremona, letting themselves be transported by the “sensory geometries” created by the artist through the skilful use of light, color and composition.

“Traits” invites you to explore not only the physical spaces of the city, but also its temporal and symbolic dimensions. Each photograph thus becomes a starting point for a broader reflection on the places, the eras, the complex souls of a city with multiple profiles: intimate interpretations and community architecture.

The exhibition is part of the Potenza Tamini Foundation’s program of events, in line with the Foundation’s mission to support young creative talents who investigate the present in research similar to the themes addressed by Gianmaria Potenza. The paths of the two artists crossed in 2022, when Mazzini photographed the new sacred furnishings of Potenza for the Cathedral of Cremona, demonstrating a particular sensitivity in capturing the Venetian sculptor’s research dedicated to light. For this reason, the following year the Foundation chose him as photographer for the shots published in the book “Gianmaria Potenza Cattedrale di Cremona”. “Tratti” was born from the research begun in that series of photographs and carries out an in-depth investigation into the city of Cremona, inviting reflection and rediscovery of the true soul of the city.

Born in Cremona in 1986, Paolo Mazzini, links the contents of his first solo exhibition to his city of origin. Through the sensibilities refined in the professional experiences of editorial graphic designer, art director, portraitist and photojournalist, in “Tratti” he exposes an original synthesis of the different ways of approaching the image in its aesthetic, narrative and expressive form. A complexity that manifests itself in the search for detail capable of describing and at the same time interpreting each space as a place of dynamic harmony.

The museum is open from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 2.30pm to 6.00pm, from Tuesday to Sunday.
