The first edition of the Ancient Wheat Festival – il Gazzettino di Gela – was a success

The first edition of the Ancient Wheat Festival, held on 2 June in Gela at the Santa Lucia Church and organized by the Promotion Committee for the recovery of Gela’s territorial assets, ended with an overwhelming success.
An event full of emotions and flavors that rediscovered the tradition of ancient wheat and
valorised the typical products of the Gela area.
Already from 9:00 am, the volunteers, including the Agesci 5 Scouts “Padre Pino Puglisi” and
the National Carabinieri Association, worked to set up the spaces and
prepare delicacies based on ancient wheat. Public participation was extraordinary, with visitors coming not only from Gela but also from Ravanusa, Enna and Ragusa.

In addition to tasting the typical products, visitors had the opportunity to admire the nearby Timoleontee Walls and the Greek Baths, whose entry was free for the occasion.
A unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the history and culture of Gela.
The culmination of the day was the blessing of the bread from some Gelese bakers by Don Filippo Celona, parish priest of the Santa Lucia Church, followed by the Eucharistic celebration.

A moment of great spirituality and sharing that he has
united the Gela community in an embrace of faith and tradition.

“I am thrilled with the success of this first Ancient Wheat Festival,” declared Don Filippo Celona. “It is an event that celebrates our roots and looks to the future, promoting the valorization of local products and the Gela area. A
special thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of this
event, from volunteers to bakers, visitors and the Promotion Committee for the recovery of Gela’s territorial assets.”
The Ancient Wheat Festival proved to be a great success, not only in terms of
participation but also for the appreciation of visitors.
