Martin will leave the Ducati team to move to Aprilia in 2025.

Aprilia makes an official announcement on the signing of Jorge Martin for the 2025 MotoGP season. This comes amid speculation that Marc Marquez has secured the much-coveted position in the official Ducati team.

Martin has expressed his desire to ride for a factory team next season, and recent reports from Italy indicate that Ducati have chosen him as Francesco Bagnaia’s teammate. However, Marquez revealed at Mugello that Martin’s place in the Pramac team was not an option for him, leading Ducati to seemingly reverse their decision on him.

Marquez has performed exceptionally well since leaving Honda and joining Gresini Ducati on a previous year’s bike in 2024. Ducati is believed to have been hesitant to lose his valuable services. In response to Ducati’s withdrawal of the offer, Aprilia quickly entered into negotiations with Martin and obtained his signature on a contract.

Martin will replace Pol Espargaro, who will retire from MotoGP at the end of the current season. Espargaro has been the subject of rumors that he will move into a test rider role with Honda from 2025. The Spaniard finished second to Bagnaia in last season’s championship and currently leads the standings in 2024 with two wins and two victories in Sprint in the first six races.

By choosing to sign with Aprilia, Martin’s decision pretty much confirms that Marquez will soon be announced as a Ducati rider. This leaves Enea Bastianini having to find a position elsewhere.
