In Milano Marittima, the historic floral exhibition “Cervia City garden – May in bloom” was presented, now in its fifty-second edition. The Municipality of Massa Lombarda, in the VII Traversa of Milano Marittima, has also created a flowerbed, entitled “Desiderium”. The work is linked to the theme of respect, chosen by the largest open air floral art exhibition in Europe for 2024.
The installation that Massa Lombarda has chosen to develop this year recalls the feelings of understanding, of the desire for freedom and love, emotions that each of us feels and has in our hearts, which are what unites us through empathy. The whole represents a dynamic image that inspires mutual understanding of thoughts and feelings, and which leads us to respect the rights of others.
“With the inspiration from the Latin word “Desiderium” a “composition of moments” was created, of feelings depicted as follows in the exhibition: in one of the tanks there is the butterfly aviary, hand-made by the municipal gardeners and inspired by a part of a historic building in the municipality of Massa Lombarda. For the butterflies we chose to use a designer terracotta with which to reproduce a colorful flight of thoughts and feelings. So a flight of splendid illuminated butterflies but closed in on themselves – they explain from Massa Lombarda -. In the space of the main flowerbed it has developed on the lawn in which small cages have been positioned from which many small butterflies will emerge which give the sensation of flying freely around the flowerbed. The latter will be made of recycled material (aluminium and copper) by the gardeners and can be replaced or integrated during the exhibition season.
“Cervia Città Giardino” is the largest open-air floral art exhibition in Europe, a point of reference for architects and green technicians from all over Europe. Born from an idea by Germano Todoli and carried on by his son Riccardo, the event, which began in the early 1970s, has taken on an international character.
There are over 350,000 flower plants and thousands of square meters of turf, sculptures, exciting expressions and compositions, figures and geometries, original gardens and incredible floral arrangements, which can be admired while walking around the city throughout the summer.
