POZZUOLI – PD senator Valeria Valente spoke on the closure of the women’s prison in Pozzuoli and the consequent stop to the “Le Lazzerelle” project through which the inmates had started a coffee production business. «It can’t close, it shouldn’t close. The experience of the “Le Lazzarelle” coop, founded in 2010 within the women’s prison of Pozzuoli, makes the principle of the re-educational function of punishment concrete, and represents a positive national model, so much so that it was awarded by the President of the Republic. Following the last – and most violent – seismic swarm of May 20th, – said Valente – the inmates of the Pozzuoli prison were transferred to other institutions in Campania for safety reasons since the structure was compromised by repeated seismic episodes. A condition that effectively forced the interruption of the Lazzarelle coffee production activity. Once the roastery built inside the institute has closed, the Bistro activity inside the Principe di Napoli Gallery remains. Precisely because I believe very much in this project, I appeal to all the institutions, and in particular to the Ministry of Justice, so that we can arrive, as soon as possible, at the creation of an alternative solution – which has already been identified – so that the roasting of Lazzarelle continues his precious commitment.»
