The last hug to Fabrizio – The Province of Civitavecchia

CIVITAVECCHIA – A river of people bid farewell to Fabrizio Airi. This morning at the parish of San Giuseppe di Campo dell’Oro, hundreds of Civitavecchia residents took part in the touching function to say farewell to the 27-year-old who passed away in recent days.

The young man was well known in the city because he had certainly not had an easy life, as also recalled by the parish priest during the homily. A life marked by type 2 SMA which forced him into a wheelchair, an illness which he had learned to deal with above all thanks to the love of his father who has always been close to him. A boy who, despite the thousand difficulties and problems, had never stopped joking and smiling, from the heart.

The demonstration was the hundreds of people who crowded the church of Campo dell’Oro. Full benches, people standing at the back of the building and a strong presence of the city authorities with, at the head, the mayor Ernesto Tedesco. A strong and silent testimony of how much his battles left their mark, of how much his story affected all those who had listened to it because, as said during the homily, his was a “short pilgrimage” but his life was “special and dear to the Lord”.

A long round of applause when the coffin came out and another when dozens of white balloons were released into the sky in a moment of strong general emotion. A few moments with my eyes in the sky, watching the balloons rise higher and higher and a silent farewell to Fabrizio.

The father, Aldo, wanted to thank all those present and the authorities who attended the ceremony.
