National Sports Day 2024

The 21st Aosta Valley edition of CONI’s National Sports Day took place on Sunday 2 June 2024.

In the morning, the Aosta golf club in Brissogne opened its doors to allow young people and families to try their hand at golf and canoeing for free.

In the afternoon, the activity moved to Aosta in Piazza Chanoux, Piazza Narbonne and Via Conseil de Commis.

«Also this year the companies and federations present in the square – declares Coni Valle d’Aosta president Jean Dondeynaz – they have been able to open up to the general public. In Aosta, on a Sunday in early summer, many people pass by, all with their own history and who don’t necessarily know the sport. Many of them had the opportunity to watch the most disparate disciplines: basketball and football, of course, but also table tennis and horse riding, confirming how colorful our world is. If the goal we set ourselves on this occasion is to show ourselves to the world, it is a goal we have achieved».

A good public presence throughout the afternoon, with a peak around 3.30pm when Matteo Joris and Federica Brignone were awarded the honor of Chevaliers de l’Autonomie. The head of the Swiss giant slalom national team, a native of Arvier, and the champion from La Salle were bid farewell at the end of a ceremony which began with a minute’s silence in memory of Jean-Daniel Pession and Elisa Arlian, the two ski instructors who passed away on Saturday 1 ° June during an ascent to Zerbion.

At the end of the ceremony, after the choir’s performance The children of Grand Paradisthe hunt for the autograph began by the many children present, who were also able to take the usual selfies with the cross-country skier Francesco De Fabiani, the biathlete Samuela Comola, the new bowls world champion Nathalie Gamba and also with Hans Nicolussi Caviglia, the Juventus player who appeared during the event and, like the other champions, did not skimp on advice to the girls and boys who were present at the party.

At the end, around 400 choristers from the Valle d’Aosta reached the square, celebrating the closing of the day by wanting to underline the social union between sport, music and culture.
