a deserved knighthood – AndriaLive.it

The Dr. Michele Terlizzi, esteemed health assistant coordinator of the Hygiene and Public Health Service of the Prevention Department of the ASL BT, was awarded the Knighthood for the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. This prestigious honor was awarded to him during a solemn ceremony held in Barletta on 2 June 2024, on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the proclamation of the Italian Republic.

The event, which took place at Curci Theatre, saw the participation of the main institutional authorities, including the Prefect Silvana D’Agostino. Last night, between emotion and solemnity, twenty citizens of the area were awarded for their contribution to society, including Dr. Terlizzi, whose commitment during the COVID-19 emergency was particularly significant.
Initially, the ceremony for awarding the honor to Dr. Terlizzi should have taken place on December 14th at the Government Palace in Barletta. However, due to the passing of his beloved mother, Dr. Terlizzi was unable to attend. To respect his pain and allow him to receive the honor in a more serene moment, the ceremony was resumed last Sunday.

The Dr. Terlizzi, originally from Minervino Murge, in service in Andria for about 10 years, has demonstrated extraordinary dedication in his role as a healthcare assistant. During the pandemic, he worked tirelessly alongside Dr. Riccardo Matera, covering crucial roles as responsible for contact tracing and surveillance, as well as monitoring the administration of the COVID-19 vaccine. His expertise and commitment contributed significantly to the success of the vaccination hubs of Minervino Murge, Spinazzola and Andria, the latter recognized as the first in Puglia for the number of vaccine administrations.

The recognition of the Knighthood represents not only a well-deserved tribute to the doctor’s professionalism. Terlizzi, but also a symbol of the self-denial and sacrifice that he demonstrated during one of the most difficult periods in recent history. His ability to coordinate and manage complex situations with efficiency and humanity has made him a point of reference not only for his colleagues, but also for the entire community.

The Dr. Michele Terlizzi embodies the values of dedication and service that the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic intends to honor. His story is a shining example of how professionalism and commitment can make a difference in people’s lives, especially in times of crisis. With this recognition, the Italian Republic not only rewards an excellent professional, but also a man of great heart and humanity.
