L’AQUILA – Every year the Italian Association of AgroMeteorology (AIAM) organizes a conference in which the most current topics of research and applications in the agrometeorological field are discussed.

The 2024 edition, the twenty-sixth of the series, will be held for the first time in Abruzzo, co-organized with the University of L’Aquila and hosted in the “Luigi Zordan” conference center (Piazza San Basilio), from 5 to 7 June.

At the opening of the conference, scheduled Wednesday 5 June at 1pmthe regional councilor for Agriculture Emanuele Imprudente, the mayor of L’Aquila Pierluigi Biondi, the rector of the University Edoardo Alesse and the AIAM president Francesca Ventura will offer their greetings.

At the end of the works, in the afternoon of Friday 7 Junethere will be a urban trekking open to citizens and coordinated by CAI L’Aquila, where the topics discussed in the conference will also be exposed to the population.

The theme chosen for this year’s conference is “Innovative approaches to support agricultural production in an evolving climate context”.

National and international experts will illustrate the state of the art in the field of prediction and management of biotic and abiotic adversities in agriculture; innovative methods for estimating water needs; irrigation management and support tools and models for the “twin transition” in agriculture.

Agriculture is one of the production sectors that are most affected by the recent climate changes taking place on a global scale. The entire sector is questioning practices that have now been assimilated even after decades or centuries of application. To implement the necessary adaptation actions, it is essential not only a detailed characterization of the local climatic conditions, but also an in-depth knowledge of the techniques that can potentially be used to overcome the problems caused by the change in the usual thermal and rainfall cycles.

The collaboration between AIAM and UnivAQ is part of the line of initiatives called “Climate and Territory”, aimed at promoting the discovery and recovery of geographical elements, of the productive and economic fabric, of social development in some way linked or dependent on climatic factors, in order to spread culture and create the necessary synergies for effective climate adaptation planning.
