The return semi-final of the national play-offs is bitter for Calabria. After the 3-3 in the first leg match at “D’Ippolito”the Vigor Lamezia knows in fact against the Bisceglie a bitter elimination at “G.Ventura”. After taking the lead, the green and whites abandon their path to Serie D due to a goal by the Apulians that arrived in the 98th minute.
The match
The challenge in Puglia begins in a tense way, with the first noteworthy action in the 14th minute: an action of green and white Spanò for Bernardi, whose shot is neutralized by goalkeeper Suma. Shortly after, in the 18th minute, the Biscelie goalkeeper is the protagonist of another decisive intervention on a header by De Nisi. From this moment Bisceglie’s first offensive attempt was born, with Pignataro challenging Columbro with a shot from the edge of the area.
At 24′, Di Rito he attempts a shot from the right which, however, ends up high over the crossbar. Also Pignataro he has another opportunity in the 36th minute, but without managing to hit the target on a serve Bonicelli.
The second half and the Lametian advantage
In the second half of the game, in the 54th minute, a header from Pignataro following a corner kick didn’t worry the green and white goalkeeper too much. Vigor Lamezia’s lead came in the 60th minute: from the development of a corner, Bernardi was good at unraveling a melee in the area, and beat Suma with his left foot, sparking the enthusiasm of around 400 visiting fans who had come from Calabria.
Bisceglie tries to react and in the 78th minute, Pignataro tries to score with a backheel on an assist from Dembele, but the green and white defense is attentive and rejects the Apulian player’s attempt. Three minutes later, Kone tries with a solo action which ends with a shot ended up on the outside of the net.
The last ten minutes plus injury time of the match are full of emotions. Giovanni Foderaro, who entered in the second half, wasted two good opportunities (83′ and 96′) to close the match in favor of Vigor. In the 93rd minute, however, Bisceglie is dangerous with Lucero who however sends a ball served to him by Monaco over the crossbar. At the end of the match, in the 53rd minute of injury time, here is the equalizing goal for the Apulians: a free kick from Monaco, with goalkeeper Suma in an offensive projection who turns the ball towards the green and white goal generating a series of rebounds with Lucero was quick to intercept the ball and score with a diving header. It’s the goal that makes “Ventura” explode with joy and mocks Vigor Lamezia.
With this result, Bisceglie is projected towards the final of the national play-offs. Mister Pino Di Meo and his boys will face Costa D’Amalfi in the double match, who in the meantime have eliminated San Cataldo. For Vigor Lamezia, however, only a lot of applause and a bitter taste in the mouth for a qualification that was lost at the last breath.
