Among these there are 20 minors, 19 unaccompanied, one of them very small. The last landing in the city was recorded on January 5, when the “Open Arms”, the ship of the Spanish NGO of the same name, arrived with 60 migrants on board.
Upon arrival, the migrants on board, all in good health and coming from Gambia, Guinea, Ethiopia, Egypt, Eritrea, Senegal, Ghana, Mali, Syria, Sudan, will be subjected to identification procedures, health checks and checks to identify the presence of any smugglers, in addition to anti-trafficking checks.
All minors under 14 will remain in the facilities of the Municipality of Salerno and will remain on the provincial territory. The others will be distributed in the CAS of the Prefecture. In recent days the usual reception machinery has been set up to better manage the arrival of migrants.

“We have acquired, as the city of Salerno, an important welcoming capacity. We know how to operate in these circumstances thanks also to the commitment of civil protection and law enforcement. We welcome these people with love and solidarity. It is necessary that Italy does not close itself but qualifies those who arrive on our shores and offers the possibility of integration in our contexts. We also need manpower,” the words of the mayor.
