“What is the supply capacity of the drinking water network?”

How do we intend to address water scarcity; contacts have been activated with the ATI, the Aica, the Region for the definition of intervention plans-programs to guarantee that, in case of need, the water supplies essential for the drinking water needs both in the primary services, both in that of agricultural production. And again, what are the updated data on the volumes of water accumulated in the water tanks of our territory, on the supply capacity of the drinking water network both in the municipal area and in the hamlets, on the potential of the drinking water wells in the various areas of the province; which and how many investigations have recently been carried out by the competent bodies on the quality of water for drinking use in the municipal water network, in the wells and reservoirs of the province. These are some of the questions that the Social Cartel asked, in a letter, to the mayor of Agrigento Francesco Micciché. On the sidelines of “march of the thirsty” yesterday, the Social Cartel actually wanted to see things clearly and asked specific questions.

Plot twist: Agrigento en masse takes to the streets, march of the “thirsty” along Via Atenea

“What are the initiatives that, in the event of an emergency, will allow us to physically guarantee the regular supply of drinking water in homes and what can be done to provide emergency irrigation in agriculture, perhaps through emergency systems, to guarantee the survival of the crops present in the irrigation district of the provincial territory” – the Social Cartel asked again -.

The Social Cartel which had requested, on the sidelines of the protest, a meeting with the mayor of Agrigento, also asked “why the water bonus, intended for less well-off families, is not paid according to the procedures established in the rest of Italy”. Both the manager and the municipalities were therefore asked to “apply and control the disbursement of the bonus, to the extent required by law”. In the letter delivered to Micciché, a painful point was then touched, the usual one: “Why today’s rates are more expensive, by over 20%, compared to those of Girgenti Acque. Then there are the flat-rate users, that is, those with who have never had a meter installed and pay regardless of their consumption. There are also the many illegal workers who – writes the Social Cartel – have never been prosecuted by those who have the responsibility to do so any other action to respect the surrounding environment should be a priority for the water service manager in the past, with the private manager, the judicial authority has ascertained many serious non-compliances which today, ten years later, remain substantially present. , with entire neighborhoods that, despite paying the fees for sewerage and purification in their bills, benefit from them only to a minimal extent”.

“The mayors, who should act as spokespersons for their citizens, are asked to supervise the construction of the new purifiers, full respect for the environment, but also the correct application of the tariff system established by law. Last but not least, yes hopes that the financial resources recovered by the FSC for the construction of the new internal water network of the municipality of Agrigento will no longer run the risk of being lost among the intricacies of bureaucracy and delays”.
