Cat found on a carriage in La Spezia: the conductor takes her home to Pisa

Upon arrival at the station in La Spezia, during a check a train conductor found a black cat sleeping on a seat in a carriage. The woman accompanied her to the departure station, Pisa, and then handed her over to the police. The owner found her at the shelter where she was staying.

On train 19340 which departed from Pisa towards La Spezia, the passengers spent their routine journey as usual. The journey, at least for the train conductor, became lively when she discovered an unexpected passenger, a black kitten.

Arriving in La Spezia, before closing all the carriages, the train conductor carried out a meticulous check of every space and, with great surprise, found the kitten sitting and calm inside a carriage. Without hesitation, she took custody of the feline and decided to bring it back with her to Pisa.
Thanks to the promptness of the train conductor, the situation was immediately notified to the Pisa Railway Police (Polfer) and the report allowed the standard procedure for the recovery of animals in difficulty to be activated. The NOGRA Animal Rescue Unit (NSA) was also alerted to intervene promptly and effectively.

Two Polfer agents with the director of the NOGRA of Pisa take custody of the kitten.

The kitten’s return to Pisa was greeted with great preparation. During the journey the conductor kept it carefully in her service compartment. Once they arrived at their destination, two Polfer agents and Michele Mennucci, the NOGRA manager, were present on the platform, to whom the train conductor handed over the kitten.
The journey towards Pisa allowed the Police to consider all the stations of the railway stretch as possible points of entry for the feline: Pisa San Rossore, Viareggio, Camaiore, Pietrasanta, Forte Dei Marmi, Massa, Carrara, Sarzana, Vezzano and La Spezia Migliarina.

The black kitten, found to be free of microchips, is in excellent health. After her recovery she was transported to the AGAP cattery in Marina di Pisa, where she underwent a complete veterinary check and remained waiting for her rightful owner, who after a few days managed to track her down.
The man had already contacted the centre, reporting that he had lost his cat near the La Spezia station: the detailed description of the animal provided by the man immediately gave rise to the volunteers’ hope that it could indeed be their guest.

“The man said that the cat is five years old and every morning accompanies him to the train platform that he takes every day, while she then returns home,” explained the association on its social channel. “Evidently something went wrong and the cat, instead of returning home, got on another train that morning, surely thinking she would find her beloved human there.”
Fortunately, the train conductor intervened to remedy the situation and, being present at the delivery of the cat, was able to say goodbye to her and witness her return home.
