A 48-year-old from Messina was arrested by the police in Messina. He is accused of having been a jockey last March 14th in an illegal horse race (photo above) in the San Filippo district. The man was in the care of social services, he could not leave his home at night and he violated the restriction and has now ended up in prison following the decision of the Surveillance Court. He had been caught in the middle of the night driving a carriage, pulled by a horse, intent on competing in an unauthorized competition in Via degli Agrumi in the San Filippo district of Messina. The facts date back to last March 14th. Staff from the Flying Squad and Flying Squad intervened at the end of an unauthorized competition between horses, reporting four subjects who had actively participated in the race.

In particular, as part of the intensified services prepared by the Police Chief Annino Gargano, the agents had interrupted a race between two carriages followed by around a hundred people, mainly on motorbikes, who stimulated the performance of the horses with horns and shouts. . The intervention of the State Police had led to a general stampede, in particular of people on scooters who, during the race, had constantly flanked the horses at high speed and sounded their horns simultaneously. As a result of the judicial police operations, the jockeys and owners of the horses were identified, all of whom were reported to the Messina Prosecutor’s Office for having actively participated in the clandestine competition, putting both the safety of road users and the physical integrity of the animals at risk. .

One of the jockeys, at the sight of the officers, had suddenly moved away, boarding a motorcycle that was following the procession, thus managing to escape in order to avoid being identified, being entrusted on probation to the social service. The Flying Squad agents, however, had recognized him; at the same time, he had been immortalized in images extrapolated from the Forensic Police recordings.

In relation to the above, the man, a 48-year-old, had been reported by the Flying Squad to the magistrates of the Surveillance Office of the Court of Messina, who therefore proceeded to suspend the measure of probationary custody to the social service – considering it incompatible with the conduct held by the man – who, during the night, instead of complying with the obligation not to leave his home, had gone out and become the protagonist, as a jockey, of a clandestine horse race on the public road, and then turned to fleeing at the sight of the police, arranging for his imprisonment.
