open letter to the candidates of Sassari, Alghero and Sorso

The Nurra Committee against energy speculation writes to the mayoral candidates of Sassari, Alghero and Sorso

“The Nurra Committee against energy speculation is aimed at candidates for Mayor of the cities of Sassari, Alghero And Sip. Whose voters will go to vote on June 8th and 9th. The Committee (as a simple popular committee of citizens) believes it is very important that voters know their position on economic-environmental issues. Determinants for all the Northwest Territory of Sardinia, for its imminent development and for the quality of life of the population that lives there”.

“The committee is in fact deeply disappointed by the total disinterest shown by the local administrators to whom it has insistently addressed. And to the behavior of the oppositions who did not want to stimulate any debate on the matter. In the territory referred to: Nurra, Coros, Romangia And Sassariare active at MASE (Ministry of the Environment and Energy Safety) at the moment no fewer than 81 requests for new wind and photovoltaic systems, of which 33 in the Municipality of Sassari alone. Of these, only one is passing into the hands of a Chinese company. While the other 80 are SRLs without capital or employees who belong to Italian, European and in any case Western companies”.

“However, the municipalities interviewed seem to want to completely ignore the problem either due to incompetence or connivance but they themselves are the first legally responsible ones. In fact, at the beginning of March 2024 we sent an informative PEC, containing a proposed resolution to stem energy speculation, to all the municipal administrations of the territory in question and we received very few responses, among which it should be noted that of Municipality of Sennori who approved it unanimously.”

“In a public meeting we also listened to the words of a member of the council of Municipality of Sassari. Who promised to inform himself to deal with the issue by involving two other departments but only after the conclusion of the 2024 regional elections. Lose or win, he is no longer interested in the problem, nor in us.

The committee’s requests to the candidates

We would therefore like to know from the candidates for Mayor:

1. You are aware of this dramatic situation both from a technical point of view and for the harmful social, economic and environmental impacts on the territory?
2. You intend to further favor it wild development of renewable sources in the North-West of our island?
3. You believe that this problem and the consequent resolution should be taken care of the Regional Council alonethus delegating to it every initiative aimed at protecting the territorial integrity of Sardinia itself?
4. You are aware of how much be precious for the European Community and the Italian Government, the wind, the sun, the pastures, the mountains and the waters off the coasts of our beloved island?

For this reason the committee will meet Wednesday 5 June at 6.00 pm in front of Palazzo Ducale. Inviting Mayoral candidates and all citizens to participate to publicly express their position on the issue”.
