Paolo Petrecca from Larino at Monza Visionaria with Falzone and Enrico Rava

LARINO. Last May 9th, the young Larinese trumpeter Paolo Petrecca took to the stage of the “Monza Visionaria” Festival, together with his teacher Giovanni Falzone and Enrico Rava.

They have the instrument in common: the trumpet, with the variant of the flugelhorn. Thus was born the idea of a new project for Giovanni Falzone: “Three generations featuring Enrico Rava”, three generations in dialogue on scores by Falzone and Rava themselves and on standards. There is also a special score in the middle: “The poet of silence” which the 50-year-old musician dedicated to Rava when he turned 80

Three trumpets and a very young rhythm section for the highlight of the festival.

Paolo Petrecca became passionate about jazz thanks to the iconic Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie and Clifford Brown and has a weakness for improvisation, the volcanic Giovanni Falzone is an omnivorous explorer of sounds and musical experiences, linked by sincere affection and profound admiration (reciprocated ) to Enrico Rava, the most famous Italian jazz musician of all time, to whom he also dedicated a poignant ballad, effectively entitled “The poet of silence”.

«The Young Talent, the Great Master and the Guardianship of the jazz trumpet»: a sonic dialogue between three generations of musicians which is also an evocative handover. This is what we read on the festival website and in the artists’ presentations.
