“New spaces for Muslims”

Nabila Hamdaoui, born in 1994, is the daughter of Arab parents, who arrived in Italy when she was just six months old. Today you work as a store multimanager for a company in Forlì.

What made you decide to run?

“There are many reasons, but let’s say that my mother gave me the push.”

How come?

“Because in Meldola, where we live, this year too nothing was organized for Ramadan and we all experienced this with difficulty: it is very important to have a place to pray together and share certain moments”.

However, you are a candidate in Forlì: does the same thing apply here too?

“Of course, there is a mosque in Forlì, but only for a few years and in any case there is a lack of Islamic schools for children and spaces to play together. When I was little there was an Islamic school in Ravaldino, but then they closed it: it’s It was a step backwards.”

What would you do in this regard?

“First of all, I would create places where children of different cultures can meet and exchange ideas even outside of school hours. Another issue that is very important to me, then, has nothing to do with my origins: it is essential to revitalize the historic center , encourage the arrival of shops in vacant storefronts and organize an attractive program”.

Regarding the historic center, some people from Forlì complain about the fact that it is inhabited and lived mainly by non-Italian people.

“It’s true, but it happens because the people of Forlì no longer have too many reasons to go to the square. If the historic center was more experienced by everyone, we would no longer have this perception.”

How could we also work on integration?

“Perhaps even by organizing professional workshops that involve foreigners who arrived in Italy as adults who have difficulty finding their place both at work and socially.”
