A lametino in the «Atlas of Contemporary Art» by Giunti editore presented last Saturday at the Metropolitan Museum in New York

The artist from Lamezia Francesco Spatara appears in the «Atlas of contemporary art» by Giunti editore whose international presentation took place last Saturday at the Metropolitan Museum in New York.

Having moved to Lombardy at a very young age with his family, he realized as a child that he had the gift of drawing. With the box of tempera paints given to him by his father he soon began to paint.

From that moment he never stopped painting and exploring this new world that opened up to him and revealed aspects of his person that he didn’t yet know and which, moreover, he liked very much.

Right from the start, painting was an intense love and a wonderful discovery. She began to participate in painting competitions and at the age of twelve, in 1972, she won her first painting prize in Castelveccana (VA).

The meeting with the painter Innocente Salvini from Gemonio (VA) and his acquaintance which lasted for a few years, represented a decisive stage in his growth which turned his entire approach upside down.

The first “personal” took place in 1978 in Caldè, which continued to continue more and more.

In 1984 he moved to Sardinia where he still lives.

After several exhibitions, in December 2011 in Liguria, under the curatorship of Bianca Laura Petretto, her first truly national solo exhibition arrived: “Quinte del corpo” (with a project promoted by M’ARTE Galleria and B&B Art Museum of contemporary art, Italy Colombia, enjoying the favor of the public and critics).

Following this event, the Municipality of Lanusei (NU) decided to repeat its solo show in its Civic Museum to make the locals aware of an important artistic activity which took the form of a production that evolved in a confidential and without fanfare manner.

In 2017 he participated in the Triennale of visual arts in Rome. Subsequently you exhibited, first in Piacenza, at Studio C with a solo show “Anime celate”, then at the collective exhibition “Thanks Italy”, National Pavilion of Guatemala (57th Venice Biennale), Palazzo Albrizzi – Capello.

It was included in the Atlas of Contemporary Art (De Agostini editore), whose volume presentation took place in February 2019 (La Sapienza University in Rome).

Its presence has been confirmed in the 2020 Atlas and at the Triennale of visual arts in Rome, Palazzo Borghese, in June 2021.

In 2022 he exhibited at the Castello Sforzesco in Novara in a collective exhibition entitled “Congiunti” and in the same year the municipality of Luino (VA) strongly wanted a solo exhibition of the artist at Palazzo Verbania entitled “Hidden Fragility.”

Now this new recognition in the Giunti Atlas.

Currently Francesco Spatara – who has never forgotten his Lametine origins – collaborates with the ONART gallery in Florence directed by Romina Sangiovanni.
