Life quality by age group: where is it highest? A question that is often addressed to understand in which places in the Bel Paese one lives best. Sondrio, Gorizia and Trento would seem to be the best places for children, young people and the elderly. This is stated by the survey presented at the Festival dell’Economia according to the generational indices of Il Sole 24 Ore based on three rankings which identify the better provinces in which to settle based on the services made available, road conditions and health conditions. Each synthetic index included in the study is calculated on 12 statistical parameters, defined by certified sources such as Istat, Infocamere, Iqvia, Siae and the Ministry of the Interior. The best and the worst
The index of Quality of life of children puts Sondrio in first place which from 2022 to 2024, thanks to the inclusion of new indicators for position assignment such as inadequate numerical and alphabetic competence and the Sports and Children index, has grown significantly. After Ravenna and Trieste comes Gorizia and after Ravenna which won in 2023. In the top ten There are also Ferrara and Piacenza together with Trento which holds the leadership for quality of life of the elderly. In the north regions prevail: Trentino Alto Adige, Lombardy and Veneto. The ranking includes Como in 2nd place, Cremona, in 3rd place, and Lodi. Veneto is also the protagonist with Treviso, Vicenza, Padua and Verona. Then there are the worse city. At the bottom of the ranking we find Reggio Calabria in one hundred and third place, followed by Ragusa and then Catania. Palermo and Crotone finish in one hundred and sixth and one hundred and seventh positions respectively.
The new voices
The analysis includes new items including users of municipal social services and the civil participation of the over 50s elaborated by the Tagliacarne Study Center, in the index dedicated to the elderly. Furthermore, the trend of transformation into a contract a indefinite period of existing employment relationships together with entrepreneurship under 35 for the youth index. The study then includes the number of Projects funded with Pnrr funds in education and the cities that benefit from municipal children’s services for the children index.
The big cities and the South
As in past editions, in large cities the results are not particularly notable. In these territories, in fact, the well-being of young peoplerecords a particularly negative performance except for the case of Bologna which is in fourteenth place together with Florence which is positioned in thirty-third.
The “big cities” are not particularly popular for the generations of the future, Milan, in fact, is on the rise compared to two years ago and is positioned in forty-fifth place. The worst scores are those of Bari, Catania, Naples, Palermo and Rome. The Italian capital is even in ninety-eighth position. Then there is Southern Italy, its provinces are often at the bottom of the ranking.
