CAMPOBASSO – Cus Bologna takes over the men’s basketball tournament and does so, probably, at the end of the best match both of the entire tournament and of the entire seventy-seventh edition of the Molise 2024 national university championships.

The start of the contest is characterized by balance with the two teams chasing each other for advantages and a margin that goes from one side up to 22-24 in the first quarter. The balance seems to be constant even in the second period, but Milan flies up to +18 (43-61) in the last three minutes. In the third period, however, Cus Bologna managed to get back behind with an 18-10 run that led to just two possessions behind in the 30th minute. So we go to the last 10′ and Bologna puts their head ahead even by two full possessions at the end, but it’s not enough. Two triples from the Milanese team earned overtime. Here, around Luca Zambon, author of a triple at the start and one at the end, as well as valuable assists, the Bolognese escape and go on to win by eleven (105-94), projecting themselves onto the European University Championships in which they will have to defend the title. In the meantime, they confirm their feeling with Molise (they already won in 2018 in Vazzieri) and are looking forward to the next edition in Ancona with the role of first seed.

Third and fourth place final – Cus Modena Reggio Emilia won the bronze medal for basketball. The Emilians have the best of ten (80-70) over Cus Pisa, thanks to final rushes between the first, second, third and fourth periods. In particular, in the first two quarters, it is the bursts of triples, inspired by Saccone in the first quarter and by Mingotti in the second, which ensure that coach Tedeschini’s team is able to take the right momentum which it also maintains at the start of the third quarter. Pisa tries to come back and also takes advantage of Simonetti’s nail, which forces coach Tedeschini to call a tie-out. Saccone and Mingotti are still the ones to remove the Emilians from the shallows and this time it is the Tuscan coach Giuntoli who asks for suspension. The margin at the end of the third period was three for Modena (60-57) and made the last ten minutes particularly intense. Pisa scores at sixty, but Modena Reggio Emilia overtakes again and tries to make it easier even with a technician sanctioned on the Pisan bench. Kashin increases margin. Simonetti brings the Tuscans back under, then Lippi brings the Tuscans closer again who impact at sixty-seven and then just before the halfway point of the period they go ahead by three (70-67). The Emilians equalize at seventy, then with Reale they overtake (70-72). Lippi’s physical problem risks weighing on the Pisans, who however manage to be compact in defense and with Saccone who with a triple brings his team up to +5 (70-75). Simonetti scores 0/2 from the line for the Tuscans then Pisa sounds the siren. Mingotti effectively writes the final word. Cempini scores the +10 (70-80) with which the contest ends.
