SPIGNO SATURNIA – Penultimate Sunday of the election campaign in Spigno Saturnia where on June 8th and 9th the almost 2200 citizens entitled to vote, as well at the European elections, they will be called upon to elect the mayor and renew the municipal council. The current opposition councilors of the “United for Spigno” council group (Raffale Vento, Matteo Mastantuono and Marco Vento, candidate for mayor running for the civic “Prima Spigno”) and the councilor Giulio Santilli directly ‘interrogated’ the Prefect of Latina Maurizio Falco “to know the administrative procedures and subsequent acts necessary and foreseen by the procedure indicated to be issued under his signature for the protection of the Municipal Body and in what times”.

It is a demanding request but it arises from the chaotic management of the epilogue of the council that began with the re-election, five years ago, of the current mayor (and candidate) Salvatore Vento. The Last April 30th the Aurunco municipal council did not approve the 2024-2026 financial forecast budget expiring on March 15th 2024 (only the budget plan approved by the council was sent to the Prefecture of Latina). The council meeting of 29 April, called “only on first call” for the approval of the 2024 – 2026 budget forecast, was deserted due to the lack of a quorum. From the Prefecture of Latina on May 3rd, “only belatedly”, warning number 3224/2024 was issued with the peremptory deadline of May 23rd (last Thursday after twenty days) for the approval of the accounting document “in order to avoid the dissolution of the municipal council”.

In the letter to Prefect Falco the four opposition councilors – all, except Santilli, involved in the current electoral campaign – they clearly maintain that “the financial statement for the 2023 financial year has not yet been approved and published which, expiring on 30 April last, became the subject of a subsequent 13 Maythe second, warns the Prefecture of Latina. Despite two yellow cards, the mayor Salvatore Vento and the council – observed the councilors Marco and Raffaele Vento, Matteo Mastantuono and Giulio Santilli – “have continued to deliberate without worrying to date about convening the city council as per the warning notified to the councillors”.

The mayor in office is unfazed. He is the first to be aware that the political-administrative situation of his majority (which numerically no longer exists) has been compromised for some time and, swearing that “the 2023 budget forecast and financial statements” will be approved by the next council that emerges from polls in exactly two weeks, has concluded that he is available for any decision that the Prefect intends to adopt Latin. THEIn short, the mayor of Spigno Saturnia does not feel any fear about the possible administration of the municipality – it would be the second consecutive one after that of a few weeks in spring 2019 – also because the presence of two candidates for mayor of the Fratelli d’Italia area, Marco Vento and Williams Di Cesare, could, in the long run, tip the scales in his part.

Di Cesare came to formalize, through a post from the civic “CambiAmo Spigno” of which he is an aspiring first citizen, an unlikely promise, almost ad personam. It is the one that, in the event of election, his “commitment of the assembly of mayors of Ato 4”, will translate for the citizens of Spigno with “a compensation equal to 30% discount on the water bill!”. The caustic reply from the lawyer Marco Vento was not long in coming: “Don’t I have to promise 3×2 at the local supermarket?”.
