The community of San Giovanni Rotondo is shocked after the terrible case in the news yesterday, Saturday 25 May. Nobody explains how that is possible a 43-year-old man, apparently without any motivation, entered the home of eighty-one-year-old Rachele Covino and brutally killed herthen walking completely naked and with his body covered in blood walking down the street.
The police found him there, and stopped him while he was still out of his mind, and was railing against anyone who came near him. Seemingly out of control, the man had remained near the house on the ground floor where – it seems – he had just killed the elderly lady. Passers-by alerted the police, understandably worried by the aimless wandering of this man without clothes and with obvious traces of blood on his body.
They are still the subject of reconstruction by investigators the dynamics of the alleged murder, which was discovered by the police by retracing the route taken by the 43-year-old before the arrest. A little further on, the officers found the body of the woman – a widow and mother of two children – lying on the ground: apparently, the man entered her house with violence, and repeatedly threw her against a piece of furniture. It seems that, before entering Mrs. Covino’s house, the man tried to break into another housebut without success.
Today, the town – known for hosting the remains of Padre Pio of Pietrelcina – woke up without being able to find peace over this inexplicable crime.
In the meantime, and while waiting to clarify what happened, several videos and images of the man were shared on social media, becoming viral. As he rightly pointed out the mayor of San Giovanni Rotondo Michele Crisetti, it’s not good for anyone. «It is a time for reflection, silence and respect. I address everyone, respect is also due when verified and unverified images, names and circumstances are spread”, wrote the mayor on Facebook, proposing to his colleagues candidates for the office of mayor to suspend all electoral propaganda activities for two days to stop together in silence and prayer. “With these behaviors we must find ourselves and mature.”
