A temporary social housing project to accommodate the homeless or those about to end up on the street begins with investigations to verify that there is no asbestos in the building materials of three homes. It was financed by the European Union, through the Pnrr, and it will be developed in three points, near the stadium and in the Vigne area. To be precise, these are via Maratona 36, Via del Mare 495 and the first floor of the former “Montecatini” building in via Vigne 83-85.

With an investment of 500 thousand euros, apartments will be created to be allocated for a limited period of time to homeless people or to those who are on the verge of ending up in this situation, for example following evictions combined with particularly precarious economic conditions.

Before moving on to design, however, it is necessary to make sure that in the environments identified for this purpose there are no traces of dangerous asbestos to be removed. Time is running out, because the Pnrr binds the funds allocated to strict deadlines: in this case, the intervention must be completed by March 2026. Therefore the Municipality has recently entrusted the Buda company Fabio Lavori Edili, based in Longiano, a job worth just over 1,000 euros, to hunt for possible asbestos. He will have to give his response by mid-June.

The idea at the center of the project is to make self-contained apartments available to those without a roof, without having to go through the dormitory. All while enjoying the accompaniment of a team of social workers directly in the home. The service, when the premises are ready, should initially involve around ten people. All with the prospect of creating support and accompaniment paths that enable these men and women to live independently, removing the risk of social marginalization. The logic is that of “housing first”, i.e. the acknowledgment that a possibility of social integration for those who have ended up on the margins or risk slipping there first comes from having a house where they can live even in those cases where does not have the qualifications to access public housing, despite not having the necessary resources to find housing on the free market.
