Here’s how to nominate typical Piedmont breads for the initiative

PIEDMONT – The Nutella initiative “Candidate the bread of your Region” has started which, as part of the Pane & Nutella project in collaboration with the University of Gastronomic Sciences of Pollenzo – starting in 2022 – has the aim of telling the traditions of all 20 Italian regions through theirs typical breadsfrom the best known to the least known.

After all, whether it is white or wholemeal bread, durum or soft wheat, bread and Nutella® is one of the most representative combinations of the Italian gastronomic tradition, behind which lies the entire history of the art of baking, which in Italy gave birth to an extraordinary variety of regional breads. From north to south, there are over 200 types of bread. Some think there are more than 500.

The project and how to nominate bread from Piedmont

The project comes to life through the digital platform “Pane & Nutella®”, which can be consulted on the website www.nutella.it, where detailed data sheets are available, divided Region by Region, 57 typical regional breads selected by University experts.

But the “Pane & Nutella®” project aims to further expand the selection, inviting the community, and the bakers themselves, to actively participate in the valorisation of new breads not yet included in the platformwith the aim of telling them all and thus promoting some of the gastronomic treasures of our country.

Whoever will be able to nominate one or more typical breads from Piedmont on the “Pane & Nutella” platform by connecting until 11pm on 16 June 2024 on the website www.nutella.it.

The new candidate breads will be able to become part of the Pani d’Italia di Nutella selection to let everyone know their history, curiosities and what makes them so special.

The selection criteria for the breads to be included in the Pane e Nutella® project

All candidate breads will be evaluated by a commission from the University of Gastronomic Sciences of Pollenzo, to guarantee compliance with the following criteria:

  • The breads must have a connection with the Italian territory;
  • The existence of the loaves must be proven by the commission;
  • The breads will be subjected to legal checks, therefore we do not guarantee that they will be published in case it is impossible to use the name;
  • Furthermore, cakes, savory or sweet pies, filled breads and pizzas will not be selected;
