Barletta, City Council, the 2023 financial statement approved

The 2023 financial statement of the Municipality of Barletta was approved on second call with 19 votes in favour. But first let’s do a little historical reconstruction: the highest city meeting was convened at 2.30 pm yesterday, Friday 24 May. However, only 10 majority councilors were present in the chamber and when the session was opened by the president of the assembly Marcello Lanotte, the numbers were too few, and therefore the council was dissolved due to the absence of a quorum. Of those absent, for the record, 12 were members of the majority, 11 were those of the opposition who clearly could not keep up the quorum. This morning, punctual like clockwork, probably burned by the experience of the previous afternoon, the city council met from 8.30, and after the current affairs questions we came to the discussion of the financial statement, whose non-approval would have brought serious problems for the city. Heated debate by the opposition who did not consider the financial statement satisfactory given a municipal cash of 55 million euros as of 31 December 2023, with the request for greater investments in the city, going beyond the numbers and saying what has been done to Barletta, say the opposition benches, as well as the delay with which the report was approved. A positive figure emerges, the 5 million more, compared to 2022, collected by the tax office equal to 9 million euros. Reading the papers, the administrative result is approximately 93 million euros 5 less than last year, while the surplus set aside is 48 million of which 38 for the doubtful debt fund and 42 million are the restricted surpluses, Approximately 1 million and 800 thousand euros are the surpluses intended for investments.
18 votes in favour, including those of councilors Piccolo and president Lanotte, the opposition votes against, councilor Rosa Tupputi abstained. But the rift that occurred yesterday could be decisive for the balance of the majority, the moves of Mayor Cannito are awaited.
