CARLINO (UDINE) – Tragic road accident in Carlino, in the lower Friuli region, late yesterday afternoon, Sunday 16 June. Pier Paolo Marino, a 56-year-old financier, lost his life who was traveling on the motorbike with another person, when – for reasons yet to be clarified – he went off the road. From the first reconstructions it would have been an autonomous leak, however the dynamics remains under investigation by the police.
What happened
It was after 7pm and the man who was traveling with another motorcyclist, riding a large scooter, suddenly lost control of the two-wheeler and ended up in the fields, along the former provincial road 3, which at that time stretch is called via Marano, in the Maranutto area, shortly after the intersection of via Gemona, near the fork that leads either towards Marano Lagunare or towards San Gervasio, along the former provincial road 124 “Savalona”. On site, alerted by other motorists in transit, on a day in which traffic was very heavy and several tourists were returning from the traditional San Vio festival in Marano, the 118 health workers, sent by Sores, intervened with an ambulance and the medical helicopter, together with the firefighters of the Cervignano del Friuli detachment and the carabinieri of the San Giorgio di Nogaro station. Unfortunately, however, there was nothing that could be done for one of the two other than to declare his deaththe other person involved, however, seriously injured, was admitted to the Cattinara hospital in Trieste.
Who was the victim
Lieutenant of the Guardia di Finanza, Pier Paolo Marino was head of the Mobile Unit of San Giorgio di Nogaro. Appointed Knight of the Republic, for nine years – from 1997 to 2005 – he was also an honorary deputy prosecutor of the courts of Udine, Palmanova and Cividale del Friuli. In 2007, NATO entrusted him with the task of training one hundred officers of the Afghan border police for the Afghan mission of the Guardia di Finanza.
