The FSC funds for Messina, the Bridge must also be taken into account

There have been controversies, the mayors of Messina, with Federico Basile in the lead, have criticized the Sicilian Government, but the FSC game, that of the Development and Cohesion Funds, must be played to the end. And we need to agree on one fact: of the 6.8 billion euros that Sicily has been allocated to carry out the infrastructural, economic and social development of the territory in the coming years – the result of the agreement on the FSC 2021-2027 programming between the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the presidency of the Sicilian Region (deed solemnly signed, in the midst of the electoral campaign, at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and President Renato Schifani) -, 1 billion and 300 million euros were allocated to the construction of the Bridge , as a co-financing share. This means that it is money to be committed in the Strait Area and therefore affects the Messina area. If the question is read in this way, then it cannot be said that Messina has been penalized with respect to the overall amount of FSC funds. The remaining 5 and a half billion euros ensure financial coverage for 580 interventions in nine different areas and Sicily is in first place among the Italian regions for resources allocated. As has already been explained in detail several times, the largest part of the sums, 2.5 billion euros, was allocated to the item “Environment and natural resources”, with 800 million expected for the construction of waste-to-energy plants, 527 million for water resources, 164 for waste, 354 for purification, 700 for interventions aimed at combating hydrogeological instability and coastal erosion.
