Tour de France, Florence turns yellow (in ice cream and restaurants)

The countdown to the Grande Boucle has started in the city and there are many commercial activities, especially in the food sector, that want to pay homage to the event. The idea is to imagine events or even recipes linked to the symbolic color of the race, yellow (also used in the Pitti Immagine events as the guiding theme of this summer’s shows).

Among the many there is also the ice cream master Cinzia Otri – owner of the Gelateria della Passera, in the Oltrarno square of the same name – has decided to create a new flavor to the memory of the important sporting day and, at the same time, of Gino Bartali. And here is “Bartali Bartali” which has the yellow of the Tour de France leader’s jersey as its predominant color, together with a purple variegation in honor of the city of David.

«The ice cream will be available in the days before the start of the Tour de France – says Cinzia Otri, whose shop has been indicated by the Financial Times among the 25 best places in the world to taste ice cream – and I thought of it following my philosophy productive”. Until the end of the month, inside the Gelateria della Passera it will be possible to choose a new flavor that pays homage to the Tour de France and Bartali, who won that race in 1938 and 1948.

Hence the “double” Bartali which gives its name to the ice cream, a cream made with Fiesole saffron: «I looked for a small producer near Florence to give the yellow color to this flavour. Then I added a variegation to the Florentine iris, the lily symbol of our city and the coat of arms of the Kings of France.”

Always with a food theme and always in honor of the cycling race, Giulio Picchi the historic day for Florence and cycling will close on June 29th at its Cibrèo Ristorante & Cocktail bar (inside the Helvetia Bristol) with a fThis is a “Gran Dé-party” to which you are admitted only by wearing something yellow. And yellow will also be the guiding theme of the proposed menu, including a special Mary Jaune, a Bloody Mary made with the juice of yellow cherry tomatoes.
